Slot Machine Cake Ideas

Slot Machine Cake: To make this slot machine cake you will need to create 3 different layers. The choice of sizes is yours, but you will want a large bottom layer, around 12', a smaller middle tier, around 10' and a top tier made from square cakes, around 8'.

All I can say is yum!
I made these on a whim, to please my hubby and kids. I started them in the afternoon, so next time I would either let them rise overnight or start them in the morning. My kids have been sick and they needed a little cheering up. They loved getting these warm cinnamon rolls, and for a moment had smiles, instead of fevers and coughs!
I remember my mom occasionally making these for us and my dad, and the smell of cinnamon baking in the house just mad our mouths water! This was my first batch, they turned out well, but were a little dry, so I would add more butter next time and more sugar, but all in all were still delicious.
I used the recipe from Betty Crockers The New Cookbook.

This slot machine cake was for my dads birthday. Now that he lives in Florida one of his favorite things to do while visiting me in NJ is go to Atlantic City and play the slots so I knew he would just love this cake!

The base tier is a cake dummy that was covered in gray fondant. The “payout plaque” was made from white fondant with a brown sugar border, and symbols were all hand painted. The pull lever is made from a wooden dowel that was covered in fondant. The top tier is a chocolate cake with cream cheese buttercream, covered in gray fondant. All of the details were molded out of fondant, except the quarters. I created a silicone mold out of quarters from different states (I picked states that are important to my dad) and then used the mold to make chocolate coins which I dusted with luster dust to give them shine.
