As sister hotels of the Caesars chain, Harrah's Las Vegas (harrahslasvegas.com) and Bally's Las Vegas (ballyslasvegas.com) both pamper and entertain their guests with amenities ranging from spas and shopping to the legendary Las Vegas nightlife and gaming. Whatever thrills you seek, you'll likely find them at either hotel, but each has a few special offerings to consider before making your decision between the two.
Shop Till You Drop
They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but if you stay at Harrah's, the contents of your wallet may be what stays there. Both hotels have shopping centers within walking distance, but Harrah's takes the prize in this category -- just across the street you'll find The Forum shopping complex, filled with decadent splurges on Gucci, Christian Louboutin, Versace and Cartier, as well as less bank-breaking shops like Banana Republic, Victoria's Secret and H&M.
Poolside Style
Harrah's pool serves up tasty bites and cocktails under the sun or in the shade at its sparkling pool, just as Bally's does. And both hotels invite guests to heated, Olympic-size pools. But Blu Pool at Bally's earns the top spot here with its VIP-style private cabanas. They come complete with a TV, refrigerator and telephone. With a poolside game room and DJ music all day, Bally's caters to a more lively crowd.
Nightlife
Choose the open-air Carnaval Court street party at Harrah's or its Piano Bar, complete with Elvis impersonators singing his hits and karaoke for a good time. But for the serious party animal, Bally's takes the prize in the nightlife category with its three offerings. For dancing and drinks, hit the hip and happening Indigo Lounge with its live music and friendly crowd. When you're ready to take a break, drink a few cold ones under the stars at Sully's Bar or grab a bite to eat with your margaritas at The Tequila Bar and Grill.
It's a Matter of Taste
Both hotels give their guests many dining options, so it comes down to taste in this category. At Harrah's choose from Toby Keith's I Love This Bar Grill, Ruth Chris' Steak House, KGB: Kerry's Gourmet Burgers, Oyster Bar, Ming's Cafe and Flavors: The Buffet, among others. Bally's serves up its signature Sterling Brunch, Ichiban Suchi, Bally's Steakhouse, The Tequila Bar and Grill, and Sea: The Thai Experience, as well as other casual dining choices.
It's a Draw
Both hotels score pretty evenly when it comes to spa indulgences, fitness facilities and location. With comparable golfing and frozen cocktail bar options, you can't go wrong either way. Likewise, you'll find all the casino standards of slot machines, keno, poker, blackjack, craps, or race and sports betting comparable at both hotel casinos.
If you want to catch one of the legendary Vegas shows, each hotel hosts a variety, from comedy to musicals to magic, to the more adult showgirl revues at Bally's, making this decision all about personal interests.
